Squash selection box
A mixed selection of 4 different winter squash for you to have as extra for storing at home and cooking throughout the winter. Share the bumper 2025 squash crop! I always enjoy a roasted squash on a cold winters day, like a package of summer sunshine that’s been waiting for me to open it. Minimum weight 3.5kg. Poetic musings not included.
Delivery will be the next thursday after ordering, or farm pickup from 4pm on Wednesday.
Varieties will include:
Buttercup - Dark green striped skin reveals a richly flavoured orange flesh. A new fave of mine.
Orange or green kuri - The classic. Thin orange or green skin, velvety textured orange flesh with a chestnut like flavour. Delicious.
Delicata - Long straight banana shaped green and cream stripey one. Tastes very like sweet potato, great cut into wedges/chips.
Celebration - Probably the most beautiful patterned yellow, green and cream flecked skin. Sweet and nutty yellow flesh.
Spaghetti - Only one with non edible skin, its too tough but would make a good house for eg a hamster. Halve, roast and scrape out tender flesh when done, it will make fun spaghetti strands which you can mix with sauce. Very cool vegetable!
Buttercrown- Crown shaped pale skin and orange butternut type dense flesh, nutty and milder so good for perhaps pumpkin pie style recipes.
NB if it’s too much danger cutting up raw squash, you could try putting in oven whole for 10 mins to soften them up, then chop em up after that into segments or halves.
